About Us

“ADVANCING CHANGE AGENTS TOWARD GREATER SUCCESS, ONE STEP AT A TIME.”

Established 2015

STEPS, Inc. was established in 2015 as an arm of Esperiod International, Inc., a for-profit development consulting firm, established in 1999.  Recognizing the needs that exist within the nonprofit community, STEPS, Inc. was created to support the operations and programs of organizations that provide needed services and resources within our communities.  While the nonprofit community is our market, our niche is specific to faith-based organizations.  STEPS, Inc. is a nonprofit organization having 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status.  The services that we provide are largely subsidized by the donations and financial support received.

Overview

STEPS, Inc. is a nonprofit organization demonstrating servant leadership for the support and development of other nonprofit organizations.

Roles

STEPS, Inc. provides the guidance needed to progress nonprofit organizations toward foundational and/or public funding and collaborations that aid in the advancement of their community-impacting work while lending toward needed growth development.

Leadership

STEPS, Inc. was founded by Dr. M. Stanley Butler, a financial and administrative professional with more than 25 years of experience within the private, public, and nonprofit sectors.  Dr. Butler has effectively provided counsel and/or guidance to national and international secular and faith-based organizations in the areas of analysis, development, and implementation of administrative and program-specific policy, and provision of the leadership of organizational initiatives aimed at realizing goals and objectives.

Dr. Butler is known for his consulting work, writings, and skillful facilitation of discussions and workgroups purposed to address difficult topics and issues.  His ability to assess organizational structure, identify weak areas, and develop cost-effective solutions has resulted in effective development servicing to nonprofit organizations in Sweden, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Dr. Butler’s public sector work includes serving as a Chief Fiscal Officer where he administrated overall fiscal activities of a local social services agency operating under the Maryland Department of Human Services.  Additionally, he has served as a Deputy Director of Operations, wherein he managed a division inclusive of human resources, finance, information technology, procurement, building and facilities,  fleet, and child support.  He was instrumental in advancing the organization in the acquisition and use of technology for enhanced customer service, developed internal financial controls and reporting for improved management of agency resources, and chaired both the Performance Quality Improvement and Risk Management Committees; all while initiating a cost-reduction plan to offset statewide budget reductions.

Dr. Butler’s educational accomplishments include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management, with a concentration in Accounting; a Master of Public Administration with a dual concentration in Government and Nonprofit Management; a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Management; a Doctorate of Philosophy in Philosophy and Religion; and is currently a doctoral candidate at Walden University—actively completing his dissertation pursuant to a Ph.D. in Public Policy & Administration.

STEPS, Inc. is led by a team of qualified professionals with more than 30 years of experience in the areas of accounting and finance, nonprofit management, marketing, and Christian ministry.
